# Registration Authorities

A registration authority is defined as a unique framework of authority within which individuals act, or are designated to act, towards some purpose. This are represented in Aristotle as a body of users within a Stewardship Organisation that have the authority to review, publish and adjust the visibility of the metadata items of that Stewardship Organisation.

When a user requests an item undergo a review, it is the members of the chosen registration authority that review it.

## Registration authority functionality

Registration authorities can be:

* Created and edited
* Used to endorse content:
  * Automatically, via validation rules
  * Manually, via:
    * Reviews
    * Direct Administrator publication

Stewardship Organisation Administrators and Registry Administrators can add users to a Registration authority and assign them roles.
