Custom Item Templates

"Custom item templates" allow you to change the way an Aristotle metadata record looks. Users can make a new record with a different appearance by selecting and using a custom template.

How to create the custom item template?

User needs to be an administrator of the registry to create the item templates.

  1. Navigate to the administrator tools by clicking on the corresponding option in the Aristotle dashboard.

  2. Click on the Manage metadata item templates.

  3. Click on create new template.

  4. Fill in the details of the custom template that you are creating:

  • Name: Name of the template that you are creating.

  • Description: The description of the template that you are creating.

  1. Scroll down to the "Base Metadata Type" section and choose the metadata type you want to create the template for.

  2. User can decide where this template would be "Applicable to"

  • Registry: The template will be available to all registered members with permission to create content in the registry.

  • Stewardship organisation: The template will be available to all registered members with permission to create content in a specific stewardship organisation.

  • Draft: Only administrators of the registry can use this template.

  • Active: All registered users of the registry can use this template to create metadata records, depending on where the templates are applicable.

Customisation of item editor:

This feature will also enable customisation of the item editor, where some fields are set by the administrator. Registered users can use this editor to create metadata records in the registry.

  1. Scroll down to Editor template on the same page.

  2. On the left-hand side, you'll find all the fields related to the selected base metadata type.

  3. Drag the fields from the left panel to the right-hand panel labeled as "Editor Field."

Customisation of the item pages

  1. Scroll down to the "view template".

  2. By click at "+", user can start the customisation of item templates for the metadata records.

  3. User needs to select from the 3 different types:

  • Container: Containers are used to control the layout of a group of fields, widgets or sub-containers. Containers can display their children as a vertical stack, horizontally across the page, or as a grid.

  • Field: Fields are used to render a single item property, e.g., name, definition, etc.

  • Widget: Widgets are the interactive UI elements, or elements which represent more than a single field on an item, e.g., Geospatial map, component trees and lists.

  1. User can also decide to display the information box or hide it by selecting the checkbox.

  2. Layout control is achieved by selecting the displayed icon.

  3. User can also choose to load in default view template that will allow them to view the standard metadata item layout.

  4. Once the user is satisfied with the customisation, they can simply click on "Save Changes."
