# Searching for Alternate Names in the Search Bar

Alternate names can be created for all types of metadata items. Adding an alternate name to an item allows you to refer to a metadata item with a different name. If the alternate name is searched in the search bar in the Aristotle Metadata Registry, the search will display the metadata item in the search results.

Follow the steps below to create alternate name types and enable searching for them:

1. Go to the Stewardship Organisation Homepage you want to create an alternative name type in.

Ensure to select 'Included in the search index' in the 'Search Index' option, as highlighted in the screenshot above.

4. Click 'Save' once you have filled in the details.
5. Now, you can add alternate names to any metadata item under this particular stewardship organisation.<br>

Refer to this page to learn ['How to add alternative names to a metadata item'](https://help.aristotlemetadata.com/creating-and-editing/how-to-add-alternative-names-to-a-metadata-item).

Once you have added the alternative names, you can search for them in the search bar, and the search will display the metadata item that has the alternate name you searched for.
